Niagara County sheriff's deputies said at least three people took part in the burglary, which occurred between 10 and 11:41 a.m. Footprints in the snow indicated that one burglar went to the front door to see if anyone was home before the three broke out a rear kitchen window and entered.

GLENTORAN 2

Martyn 6, Nixon 45

AFTER a season of turmoil and upheaval, Glentoran bagged a trophy for their troubles - but it took a shootout to earn it.

Scott young was given eight weeks to prove he was the man to take the club forward after Alan McDonald's departure, and the Co- operative Insurance Cup will go a long way to securing the job.

young's men edged a fantastic spectacle thanks to a 4-1 shootout success over Coleraine at windsor Park.

Gary Hamilton, Kyle Neill, Daryl Fordyce and Matty Burrows were the heroes from the spot as Aaron Canning and Darren Boyce both missed for Coleraine.

Defeat will be a bitter pill to swallow for David Platt after his side came from a goal down to dominate the first half.

Boyce levelled Ciaran Martyn's opener and top scorer Rory Patterson put his side in front, only for Colin Nixon to equalise on the stroke of half-time.

Bannsiders boss David Platt made a huge call before kickoff, restoring goal-poacher Patterson to the starting lineup after banishing him from the squad in midweek following an altercation with team-mate Kyle McVey.

But with 33 goals to his name this season, leaving him out of a final was almost unthinkable, especially given his record against his future employers.

Glens took the lead in the sixth minute when Martyn played a neat one-two with Hamilton after Howard Beverland's woeful clearance before composing himself and lobbing Davey o'Hare.

the East Belfast side though barely had time to enjoy it as wholesale sexy lingerie Coleraine hit back within a minute.

Patterson picked out strike partner Boyce on the left side of the box and the former oval ace picked his spot, shooting low across James taylor.

Stephen Dooley's pace was giving Jason Hill endless problems and he cut loose again on 33 minutes after good work from Boyce.

Yet again he eased his way past Hill and played an exquisite reverse pass to Patterson, and the lethal Northern ireland international drilled his 34th strike of a stunning season past Taylor.

And the scoring wasn't done there as the Oval men levelled two minutes into time added on before the interval.

Hamilton's corner glanced off a Coleraine header at the near post and, with O'Hare rooted to his line, Nixon nodded in from a yard out.

The second period was goalless but seconds before the whistle the Glens came close when Gareth Harkin cleared dean Fitzgerald's flick off the line.

ORRVILLE -- There is something of a dictum around the Orrville Fire Station that if you're at the scene of a blaze, you don't want to be around firefighter Ryan May.

"I'm the bad luck charm, I guess," said May, who joined the department in November 1997, achieving what had been a lifetime dream.

Since then the 31-year-old firefighter -- who is nicknamed "Opie" after the "Andy Griffith Show" character he resembles -- has seen more than his share of bad luck on the fire ground. He has been steam-burned on two occasions, a pump he was operating broke down during a critical point in battling a blaze, and during the downtown fire of Stoller's Flooring several years ago, he was one of a trio of firefighters a brick wall collapsed on top of.

But May's worst piece of luck came during a Paradise Road house fire in October 2000 when he jumped off an arriving truck, attack line in hand, only to stumble and severely fracture his right ankle, turning his foot completely backward. Firefighters still recall fighting the fire by pulling hoses over the top of the prostrate May until EMTs could arrive to transport him.

Since then May has had multiple surgeries on the ankle, and in March 2008 had ankle fusion surgery to help correct a severe limp, constant unbearable pain and post-traumatic arthritis that had set in.

But May is feeling a lot better these days, especially since he was named Firefighter of the Year for 2009 by his fellow firefighters, who he has been enamored of as long as he can remember.

May said he grew up around firefighting. His father, Mike May, began his fire embroidered patches service career in Millersburg, and upon moving to Orrville joined that city's department. Ryan May recalls when he was 4 years old and playing at the Orrville Fire Department, one of the firefighters found an old helmet around the station and gave it to him.

"It didn't have a number on it anymore, but Chris Bishop got the plaque made for it," May said. "He asked me what number I wanted to have on it, and I said 4, because that was my age."

Today, May said, he still treasures the helmet, which, of course, reads "Firefighter 4 Orrville."

After graduating from Orrville High School, May applied to become a firefighter with the department in August 1997, and was hired three months later.

"All I ever wanted to be was be a firefighter and serve the citizens of Orrville," said May, who works full time as supervisor for the installation group at the Schantz Organ Co. The job takes him far afield to supervise the construction of new and renovated organs at a variety of venues across the country.

"As far as I'm concerned," said May, "I have two of the most interesting jobs in the world. In becoming a firefighter, I fulfilled my true life's ambition."

"When Ryan and I started dating," said his wife, Michelle, "I understood from the beginning what a priority this was going to be in his life."

She said once Ryan was grocery shopping and he was toned out to Thomas sabo charms a fire and had to leave his full cart in the middle of the aisle. He called his wife to come and complete the shopping.

The couple has two daughters, Isabella and Luciana, also growing up at the fire station like their father d

Red-hot actor Ryan Reynolds is set to enjoy his biggest year to date with star turns in Miramax Films’ ensemble comedy “Adventureland,” and Touchstone Pictures’ date-movie “The Proposal.” He has already shone in the blockbuster “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” as Deadpool earlier this year.

In “Adventureland,” he plays Mikel, a technician at a theme park, who’s having an affair with a much younger girl (Kristen Stewart), while in “The Proposal,” he portrays Sandra Bullock’s put-upon assistant Andrew who’s forced into a wedding engagement charade. Question: Was it difficult to make such a roguish character so charming in “Adventureland”? Ryan Reynolds: Yeah, it was fun. I liked that there is no real villains or heroes in this movie. I feel like it’s a lot like life, you know, people have complexities and they have their heroic book printing moments and their villainous moments. I will say that with this cast I’ve never felt so old [Laughs]. It was a routine of humility. Obviously this guy is having a pretty inappropriate relationship with this very, very young girl, but the spirit on the set, it really felt like where I was eight or nine years ago. It was like a pretty cool place to be each day. Q: What did you make of your co-star Kristen Stewart who’s suddenly huge? A: Kristen is great. She’s really great. Obviously life has changed for her in a pretty drastic way since then. So it was kind of cool to see her talking about this thing called “Twilight” that she might do [Laughs]. Q: Are you still auditioning or you’re past that? A: Truthfully, I haven’t auditioned in a long, long time, but it’s never outside the realm of possibility. I mean if you want a film and they don’t want you, sometimes you have to go Chanel Replica Handbags fight for it. Sometimes that ends up just being a meeting, just sitting down with them and just saying here is my vision for it and why I really love it. But for the most part, I think filmmakers gravitate towards actors that are as excited as they are about the film. Q: You have another summer movie coming out with “The Proposal.” This is turning into a big year for you? A: Yeah, it is. It’s definitely a big year for me – “Wolverine,” “Adventureland” and “The Proposal.” That’s a movie I loved. I got to work with Sandra Bullock, who has been a friend of mine for almost a decade, and that was kind of interesting to spend that time with her. But I have no control over release dates. I’ve been shooting for 15 months straight, and maybe I should have known they’d all be stacked up like this, but it’s a pretty interesting position to be in. I’m lucky, I have three completely different movies coming out. Each one is an entirely different genre unto itself. I feel really fortunate that I’m able to go from genre to genre. Q: Having worked with Sandra now after knowing for so long, did you learn anything new about her working on this particular movie? A: She has an ability to compress an enormous amount of emotion and information in a single look. I think that’s the magic of her. I used to think it was because she was the girl next door or she’s America’s sweetheart – but no, it’s the fact that she’s got some sort of weird, bizarre supernatural gift that I’m deeply envious of and would love to have some day. We’ve been friends for a long time, but we haven’t been up in each other’s grill for 15 hours a day for three months. So thankfully, that all worked out well and she didn’t stick her three-legged dogs on me. [Laughs] (Both distributed by Walt Disney Studios

Riding high on the success of his film Fashion, which bagged both the best actor (female) and best supporting actor (female) awards at the recently announced 56th National Film Awards for 2008, director Madhur Bhandarkar said filmmaking is all about entertaining and enriching the audience. Clip on charms

Bhandarkar, who has already bagged two National awards earlier for his films Page 3 and Traffic Signal, made a brief appearance at the fifth and concluding day of the Jaipur Literature Festival.

Delighted that his work was being appreciated, Bhandarkar said: "While bringing real-life stories to the silver screen, I have always tried to ensure my producers, who are putting their faith in me, should also earn money out of the films that I make." When replica balenciaga handbags asked why even some big-budget films fail to set the box office registers jingling, Bhandarkar said, "It is simply because they make films on lavish budgets. You can't expect everybody to watch your film just because you have spent Rs40 crore."

"Filmmaking is all about entertaining and enriching the audience. But at the same time it is also about understanding the economics behind making a film," he added. Asked why most of his films failed to make good profits despite being critically acclaimed, the director disagreed and said, "Only Jail reached a break-even point. Rest of my films like Fashion, Chandni Bar, Page3, Corporate managed to earn good profits for the producers."

"Had it not been the case, how come big producers are backing me for my upcoming projects?" Denying reports that he would be directing a film on the life of IPL commissioner Lalit Modi, Bhandarkar said, "These are baseless rumours. Many channels and dailies had carried the news, confirming that I am directing a film on the life of Lalit Modi. That's not true."

Satisfied with the fact that his films not only brought profits to producers but awards as well, Bhandarkar said, "I'm lucky that whatever I thought and dreamt of, I could bring it to the silver screen for the audience without compromising in anyway."

Fairwater pensioner Ron Morgan thinks Rhodri will be a hard act to follow.

"He's done a lot for the Welsh Labour Party and he's done a grand job on the whole.

"A lot of people put him down. I want to know who is going to take over from him and be as influential and as much of a character.

"He's a very intellectual man and very approachable."

IT'S a deadly, silent killer that claims the lives of around 550 Irishmen every year.

However, many men still know very little about the ticking time- bomb of prostate cancer that needlessly puts their lives at risk.

Tragically many victims are uncomfortable discussing problems with the most sensitive areas of their anatomy which results in utterly avoidable deaths.

The National Cancer Registry of Ireland's latest data revealed 2,579 cases of prostate cancer were diagnosed in 2008.

Frighteningly, Irish men have approximately a one-in-nine chance of developing the disease. The Irish Cancer Society said, with our ageing population, prostate cancer will increase by 275%, with 6,000 new cases each year by 2020.

There is currently no national screening programme so the onus is on men to get checked themselves and many of them just don't.

In late 2002, it was a random check on a totally unrelated matter which uncovered prostate cancer in 56-year-old Pat MacBride from Dublin.

After his wife found out she had high cholesterol Pat decided to visit the doctor and have his checked. It was a decision that probably saved his life.

As a blood test showed his PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen) was raised, and a follow-up biopsy confirmed the worst - he had advanced prostate cancer. Pat said: "I couldn't believe it. It was like a bolt out of the blue.

"In my case it was a random blood test that discovered I had the disease.

"I had no symptoms. I knew a little about prostate cancer but not much. It wasn't something I thought about especially as I had no symptoms.

"I was only 49 and there was no history of it in my family. I definitely was lucky. I was told the cancer was advanced but contained. It had been growing for a while." After considering his options Pat decided to have a radical prostatectomy even though he risked two major side-effects - incontinence and erectile disfunction.

Seven years on he is cancer-free, his bladder functions are back to a level that are very manageable while his sexual functions returned to a normal within 12 months.

Pat added: "The cancer was advanced and I was physically fit and in good health for the operation. My age and general good health were factors, it was a combination of things that made me opt for surgery.

"You are faced with your own mortality, you have to decide what is best for you.

"It was frightening and for my family it was very difficult. My youngest son was only 16 but I was fairly confident I would survive."

replica bag wholesale Pat received "tremendous support" from the Cancer Society which is why he has now become involved with its support group MAC, Men Against Cancer. He said: "The group provides support and counselling to men who are facing a cancer.

From my experience it was very helpful to talk to someone who been through a similar journey and I wanted to give something back.

"Men often find it hard to open up. There is still embarrassment when it comes to talking about certain things.

"They won't ask you the questions in relation to the loss of sexual functions or bladder problems.

"Because I have gone through it all myself

A TEENAGE biker had used cannabis shortly before he was fatally injured in a collision with a tractor, a court heard.

Reading out agreed facts at the trial of farmer Geoffrey Williams, prosecutor Jason Beal revealed that police seized a coat worn by victim Ian Keenan following the accident.

Its contents included a pouch of tobacco, two lighters and a gripseal bag containing a small amount of herbal cannabis.

A toxicology report on Ian's blood revealed that he had used cannabis at some time before the accident, which happened just before noon on September 18, 2008.

His brother-in-law with whom Ian had breakfast and worked between 8.30am and 11.15am that day said he did not appear to be under the influence of drink and drugs.

But on admission at Derriford Hospital, Ian, 17, told staff he had taken cannabis that morning, the court heard.

Williams, a 62 year-old farmer from Meavy near Yelverton, denies a charge of causing death by careless driving.

Crime scene investigator Peter Cole testified that he didn't know the defence had asked for Ian's mobile phone records on June 23 last year, less than 10 months after the accident. By the time the police asked Orange for them, the mobile phone company had destroyed them, as it kept records for only 12 months.

The defence was seeking to establish whether Ian made or received any calls or sent or received any text messages around the time of the accident.

Police vehicle examiner Paul Charley told the court that Ian's 2004 moped, which was legally restricted to 30mph, had been modified at least two months previously, and was capable of doing 44mph on a flat road.

It had a nail in its rear tyre which appeared to have been there for some time, and the tyre was inflated to just six pounds per square inch instead of the correct 26.

Mr Charley said he did not believe the bike's faults had contributed to the accident, though he conceded that the tyre would have caused some delay in turning had Ian been steering.

Police expert witness MPc Marcus Rowe said that after negotiating a blind right-hand bend slightly downhill, Ian would have encountered a 150-metre straight with the junction 70 metres along it.

He said it appeared that a circular-sectioned pole, part of the tractor's hydraulic lifting arms, had hit the bike's handlebars and then Ian's chest, causing him to fall off.

The bike carried on without him down the lane, crashed into the offside hedge and probably tumbled as it continued down the lane towards Hemerdon.

The first point at which Williams and Ian could have seen each other was around 38 metres from the point of impact, giving Ian nearly three seconds to react if he had been doing 30mph.

He said there was no evidence Ian had braked, suggesting one of three scenarios: he hadn't seen the tractor, he did see it but didn't have time to react, or he did have time but didn't react.

The tractor was either stationary or moving very slowly.

If a driver saw someone emerging from a difficult junction, he would expect them to try to slow down, he said.

It will surprise few parents, but research suggests teenagers might take more risks than children and adults because they get more of a thrill from them.

The findings came in a study involving a computer gambling game where participants had to choose between risky and safe options. Fourteen-year-olds were around 20% more likely to take risks than the oldest category of 25 to 35-year-olds, the study found.

Even though they were good at weighing up the pros and cons of their decisions, adolescents displayed a more positive emotional response to winning in a "lucky escape" situation, according to scientists at University College London.

The researchers studied 86 boys and men aged between nine and 35 as they made decisions in an attempt to win points.

After each game, they measured the participants' emotional responses by recording how satisfied or dissatisfied they were. Although they said further studies were needed links of london charms to explore what happens in real life, the scientists suggested the results from the laboratory could help explain why teenagers take risks such as using drugs or having unprotected sex.

Neuroscientist Stephanie Burnett said: "The reason teenagers take risks is not a problem with foreseeing the consequences. It was more because they chose to take those risks.
